I've Lived With Missing Teeth for Years Why Should I Get Dental Implants?

Missing teeth can negatively affect your quality of life in many ways. Dental implants can create a brighter future for you and your smile, offering benefits like:

A Complete Smile

When you lose teeth to injury, decay, or infection, they leave visible gaps. Dental implants can provide the ultimate support to replacement teeth, completing your smile and boosting your self-esteem.

Improved Jawbone Health

Missing teeth can cause your jaw to shrink and weaken, but implants counter this problem. Implants fuse with your gums and jawbone, providing stimulation that encourages the growth of strong, healthy bone tissue. This helps prevent further tooth loss.

A More Youthful Appearance

A lost tooth and shrinking jawbone tissue can give your face an aged look. Implant-supported restorations can maintain your facial features so you don't look aged beyond your years.

Clearer Speech

Your tongue and teeth work together to produce certain sounds. Without stable teeth, your speech can become slurred, mumbled, or garbled. Implants help your restorations contribute to enunciation so you can speak clearly and confidently.

Implants: An Effective Treatment From a Trusted Dental Office

Each implant is a threaded titanium device placed surgically into your jaw. After it undergoes a natural process called osseointegration, it will act as an artificial tooth root. The implants provide support to restorations like dentures while preventing bone atrophy.

Though not all dentists have the training or qualifications to place implants, both Dr. Lee and Dr. Wong perform this procedure in our advanced Vancouver dental office. When it comes time to attach your abutment and lifelike restoration, they can easily handle that, too.

How Dental Implants Work

The implant directly replaces a lost tooth root. After the implant is placed in the jaw, our Vancouver dentists will attach an abutment device that will serve as the connection point between your implant and your replacement tooth. Once you've healed, you'll be free to chew, talk, and smile with ease.

I have going to Norris Dental for the better part of my adult life…the staff have always been attentive and treated all their clients with care and compassion. (And they have a great sense of humour). What I’ve enjoyed is the advice they give is conservative and grounded in what is practical — not trying to upsell you to have work done you don’t need. Going to the dentist isn’t typically something people enjoy, but Norris Dental makes it so that you feel at ease..I highly recommend!

Understanding Restorations: What They Do and How They're Made

Dentist shading-matching restoration

Dental restorations are the final ingredient used to give you back the appearance and function of natural teeth. Restorations are the crowns, bridges, or dentures that will be attached to your implants to completely restore your tooth or teeth.

You've come to the right place for implant-supported restorations, because Dr. Lee is an award-winning prosthodontist. Each crown, bridge, or denture will be made referencing your real teeth to ensure a proper fit. They're also created in a trusted lab, where they will be crafted out of lifelike materials like porcelain.

Which Restoration Is Right for Me? Find Out at Norris Dental

Patient education is a cornerstone of our Vancouver office — and we're happy to explain each restoration option in person. Until then, here's what you need to know about dental implant-supported restorations.

Crowns Are for a Single Tooth

The simplest option for implant-supported restorations is a tried and true crown. After tooth loss due to decay, injury, or gum disease, a dental crown can easily fill in gaps in your smile.

Bridges Are for Two to Three Teeth

If you have lost more than one tooth, you have another option: bridges. They can replace two to three natural teeth in a row, blending in easily with your enamel's shade and shape.

Dentures Are for Most or All Teeth

If you have lost several or all of your natural teeth, they can be restored with a stable set of partial or full implant-supported dentures. These restorations stay put, allowing you to enjoy meals and conversations without worry.

Excited to explore the possibilities? We're happy to guide you through your options, starting with a dental implant consultation. Reach out to our friendly team or call us at

Is Implant Surgery Safe?

/

All oral surgeries have some element of risk. But when you choose highly trained doctors, complications are rare. As our patient, your dental implant surgery will be performed under the strictest sanitary conditions in our sterilized procedure rooms. Every precaution will be taken to ensure that your implants will be placed precisely, effectively, and safely.

The Implant Procedure Timeline

After you've been confirmed as a healthy candidate for implants, and your customized treatment plan has been created, the process can begin. You will undergo two oral surgeries over the course of about six months.

Surgery #1

Incisions will be made in your gums where a tooth or teeth are missing. Then, our dentist will surgically place your implant in your gum and jaw.

Healing Period #1

Over the next four to six months, your jawbone will fuse with the implants, anchoring them in place.

Surgery #2

You will come back to our Vancouver dental practice for a minor procedure to have an abutment attached to each implant. The abutment acts as a connector between the implant and a restoration.

Healing Period #2

Your gums will heal around the abutments over the course of a few weeks.

Restoration Attachment

Your customized, natural-looking restorations will then be attached to the abutments. From now on, you can talk and eat normally with a dazzling, complete smile.

The Basics of Implant Recovery

After your surgeries, you may experience mild swelling, soreness, and residual bleeding. These should all subside fairly quickly. Ice packs, prescribed pain meds, and sticking to soft foods during healing periods can help reduce discomfort. Questions? Contact us anytime.
